1. What is the difference between a Public Affairs Committee and a Political Action Committee?

A Public Affairs Committee neither rates, ranks nor recommends candidates. A Public Affairs Committee (e.g. AIPAC) lobbies Congress, informs the public of issues of importance, and collects data to influence debate on issues. A Political Action Committee, on the other hand, does rate and recommend candidates. To Protect Our Heritage, a federally registered Political Action Committee (with the Federal Election Commission) raises funds to support candidates whose record on the issue of the American-Israel relationship merits our support. In turn we conduct voter registration campaigns, inform Congress, and provide forums for candidates seeking public offices.

2. Does “To Protect Our Heritage” only support candidates in Illinois?

Our efforts on behalf of candidates in Illinois allow us to go beyond contributions to campaigns. Here we can, in some cases, help enlist volunteers to aid local candidates in many areas of political action. However, our work to strengthen the American-Israeli Alliance requires us to support candidates in many other Federal elections. We have supported candidates in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Iowa, S. Dakota, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Minnesota, Wisconsin, W. Virginia, Michigan and Indiana.

3. Why get involved in Political Action?

The U.S. Constitution and our republic form of government require all citizens to participate in the workings of government on all levels. Not only are we called upon to vote in elections, but we are required to be informed on the issues vital to us. We are required to learn the platforms of candidates and to examine their records. We are required to hold them accountable for their actions. To facilitate the work of public officials we need to inform them of our opinions and to hear their opinions. Understanding the electoral process and helping elect the best officials to represent us requires time, effort, and often monetary contribution to make our great system work.

4. What’s the best way to contact our representative or senator?

The best way is not only when we’re angry, but to show that we are vigilant and appreciative. Often the folks we send to Washington feel isolated. They don’t always get back to their districts, but when they do, a personal appointment or a phone call is vital. Don’t threaten! Threats are counter productive. Express your opinion; listen to him/her, ask for your representatives' support on vital issues. And, by all means, plan a trip to Washington and visit with your elected officials. Barring a visit, don’t forget to write, phone, email. Save the answers.

You Betcha! We publish a newsletter, we conduct candidate forums, we present authoritative speakers on our issues. We conduct letter writing and email campaigns. We meet with candidates privately to discuss U.S.-Israel relations. We Protect Our Heritage.

6.  Can one person make a difference?

Individuals vote, contribute, communicate and work to advance the political process. When individuals band together to support a cause or a candidate, our efforts are multiplied, our voices more clearly heard, our contributions more powerful, our work more successful. Our coins say E pluribus Unum, out of many - one. We join to build unity and power and give direction to society. We depend on individuals to do their duty to God and country for this great country to function and To Protect Our Heritage.

7. Do you support one of the parties in Israel or the U.S.?

We believe a strong relationship between our country and Israel is critically important to the US and the American people. Therefore, we do not support any particular party but provide support for the People of Israel and the policy of the government they elect in Israel. We are not pro-Likud or Labor. We promote unified support for whomever is elected and we seek to promote unified support in Congress and Senate for Israel. We vote for and contribute to candidates from the Democratic and Republican parties whose voting records and public statements will provide support for the U.S.-Israel Alliance.

8. Do I have to be Jewish to be a member of To Protect Our Heritage?

No! We believe "Our Heritage" is biblical, highly ethical and universal. We hope we can come together, take counsel, share opinions in order to Protect Our Heritage of Justice, Law, Truth and Human Freedom and efforts to promote peace.

We are registered with the U.S. Federal Election Commission. We are independent of any other organization. Just as Abraham, Moses, Herzl and so many other individuals got ideas and began to work toward their realization, gaining adherents and enlisting others in supporting noble undertakings, so do we.
